Meriel appears as a young, red-headed woman in her mid-to-late teens.  She is normally quiet, avoiding politics and the world outside her wilderness areas and her Druids.  Meriel is an accomplished shape-shifter, highly skilled in the disciplines of Life and Spirit magic.  She has occasionally displayed other abilities, but only rarely.

The Archdruid spends most of her time tending to the lands of Valhain, keeping nature and civilization in check.  Civilization doesn't always enjoy her "watchful guardianship," but Meriel looks for compromises.  Due to her influence, the crops in Valhain of timber and foodstuffs are often much better than an outsider would expect.  Meriel tries to avoid the public, as she is constantly bombarded with requests to heal people.  Meriel doesn't mind healing when required, but her duties take up much of her time.

For the last forty years or so Meriel has been investigating the valley of [[Fairwind Keep]], attempting to find the reason why the wildlife grows so abundantly there.  She has a working friendship with [[Gregor]], the Geomancer, whom she often refers to as a "young pup - much to his annoyance.
