The Eastern Neighbors
To the east of Valhain lies the great plain. Settled at the foot are cousins from Valhain who settled the foothills, the Hain. Beyond them lies the feudal states of the Volk. To the north the Haaka. And above them in the north, the Orcish nations. Rumors abound of countries farther to the east, where golden domes arch over churches, and even farther where strange lizards inhabit the rivers.

The Orcish Nations
Living in the harsh arctic wastes, the Orcish tribes are a loose confederation. Warring among themselves almost as often as they attack the icy fortresses of Tievia and Haaka. Their lives are short and brutal. The Orcs are shorter than humans, with heavy brows and high cheekbones. Their shoulders are disproportionately wide, jutting out from barrel chests. Orcs are significantly stronger on average than humans. Their intellects are quite limited in comparison, though. The Orcs live as hunter-gatherers, rarely staying in one place for very long. Intrepid humans have managed to trade with them from time to time. Thus, some of their language is known in the south. The fates of these traders, however, is often just as short and brutal as the fates of their Orcish trading partners..
The Orcish Invasion
When the Orcish hordes broke past the Shieldwall in Haaka they invaded the lowlands of Valk. As the invading hordes spread out they have established a horrible rhythm. Each horde is comprised of between 200 and 250 Orcs. The main hordes contain most of their non-combatants. These hordes are usually besieging a Valken city or keep. Raiding bands of between 50 and 75 Orcs roam the countryside. The raiding bands attack farms, villages, and generally hunt anything that moves to try and find food or plunder. As raiding bands return to the horde, new bands form and repeat the process.
