Nefarious GM (Matt)
From Wod
If you're looking at this wiki, you're looking for information on a campaign I am running - Sins of the Parents. The campaign is designed to present the players with an expansive world, a challenge, and a backstory. The players will be the ones who determine how the challenge will be met and overcome. (Or if it is overcome, for that matter.) Each challenge is intended to be a short "season" if you choose to go with a television series concept. In between challenges we will be taking time off for conventional gaming, one-shots, and so on. I intend to continue the campaign as long as the players are still interested in it. The short season format allows us to keep an open-ended format and routinely check to see if folks are ready to move on to something new.
Sins of the Parents will be run using the New World of Darkness (NWOD) system. I'll be using a mix of open and closed door GM'ing styles. There are going to be a few changes to the NWOD system. First, I am removing the morality system. I feel it is better to let players decide how events affect their characters as opposed to an arbitrary system. (Getting a phobia of fire because you've killed someone, for example, doesn't make much sense to me..) I am also doing away with the Paradox rules for magery as Valhain is set in a mid-fantasy world.
Valhain's world is a rough equivalent of Earth's Middle Ages. Knights in plate armor are the height of military technology. Longbows have made their first appearance in the last two hundred years or so. Crossbows have yet to be invented. Firearms and explosives are right out. Medical technology is at the herbs and bandages level. Surgery is done (rarely) and has a horrible survival rate. Due to the effects of having magick available, the population does have a concept of germs and viruses. Peasants aren't able to keep themselves as clean and healthy as the nobles but everyone tries.
The campaign is based around a group of children who are abnormal or perhaps unnatural. Each of the player characters is the firstborn child to a set of noble parents. If you have ever heard stories of parents selling their firstborn, you've got a good idea where the player characters come from. The sins of the parents are devolving to their children. None of the children know about these deals...
As time progresses and new information becomes available to the party, I will be adding it to the wiki. Players are free to add to the wiki themselves, should they choose to do so.
