[BozeMUG] New user/internet connection

Hi Folks:
 
I am a new (yesterday) imac user and extremely low-tech (it took a while to 
master the proper use of the mouse).  Do I need a router to hook up to the 
internet?  Our pc is hooked up to a cable modem (Bresnan).  When I started up the 
imac it pretty much seemed to connect, and asked about wireless networks. I 
was clueless.  Does the imac pick up wireless signals from outside of our house?
