[BozeMUG] iMac Will not boot

I have been helping the Children's Museum with their iMacs.

Tonight one of the older iMac's come up with a grey screen and says:

bootr, unknown word
Failed boot
Apple iMac Open Firmware 3.0 f3 built on 12-02-98 at 10:25:41

The computer was running 8.6, so I put in a Mac OS 8.6 disk and held 
down the "c" key.  The grey screen with the above message comes up 
again, so I typed in "boot" and hit return.  It then started up from 
the CD and shows the HD with all that was previously on it.  I did a 
clean install and then did a reinstall with no changes in start up. 
I ran the CD disk doctor utility on the HD and it said the HD was 
"OK".  I can not get it to shut down without running from the CD.

Any ideas on what I can do?
